prediction for Avengers 4, and how will it resolve Avengers: Infinity War

Major Spoilers Follow.
Seriously. I’m going to immediately begin by discussing the very end of the film. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see this film yet, please don’t view this answer.

“Half of Humanity Will Still Exist”
Let’s begin by addressing what will probably pan out to be the most divisive and analysed moment in the film. The moment where Thanos clicks his fingers, and half of the Avengers dissipate away (although, it seemed a bit like more than half - the Russo brothers must have been particularly cruel when writing the film). The question is, is this permanent? The answer is almost certainly not, and Avengers 4 will likely follow the rewriting of this event. People who died include:
Spider Man, Doctor Strange, Drax, Star Lord, Gamora, Groot and Mantis.
Considering all of these characters are basically confirmed to have movies following them in the future, these deaths are almost certainly temporary.
The Gauntlet
It’s gone, dead, crushed, seemingly unable to be used again. That means that all the Infinity Stones won’t make a reappearance in the next film… unless they’re present in the past.
Time Travel
The question now turns to: how does the rewriting of Avengers 3 pan out? Well, we can only speculate, but we know it has something to do with Time Travel. That’s been confirmed by some very odd set photos showcasing Captain America in his Avengers-esque, star spangled uniform, and Loki (the person who died 10 minutes into Avengers 3) in the same mouth-cuffs as he was at the end of the Avengers. Present Avengers like Iron Man and Ant Man have been showcased in these events. The question remains how these Avengers go back in time (has SHIELD been working on something, and is the device shown in the post credit scenes something that can communicate to the past?). And speaking of, that leads to the next integral moment in Avengers 4.
Captain Marvel
The post credit scene to Avengers 3 showed Nick Fury pressing a button on a device to send a message after learning of the energy signals in Wakanda. This was probably sent to the past. The reasons for thinking this is a) if only a regular message needed to be sent, Fury would have used a phone and b) Captain Marvel is going to be set in the past. While Captain Marvel’s movie, which will come out before Avengers 4, seems to have the primary focus of the Kree/Skrull war, I would expect the end of the film to have Nick Fury’s message reach her, commencing her role in changing the future in Avengers 4.
This is more fanfic-esque than speculation, but I would LOVE it if in the post credits of Captain Marvel Danvers listens to the recording Fury sent her, which is almost identical to the speech Fury gave Stark when the Avengers Initiative was first namedropped in the MCU. The entire thing would be a recreation of Iron Man’s post credit scene, reminiscent of the past and indicating the important role Marvel will soon play in the Avengers. That scene would give me goosebumps.
Thanos
Of course, Avengers 4 needs an antagonist, and that’s Thanos. At the end of the film he got his wish of balance in the universe and sat down to enjoy a sunrise at last. He probably won’t get his peace for long, as the Avengers are going to try and tear down everything he worked for. Thanos is one of the most developed villains in the MCU and also one of the few survivors of their initial films, so it’s a safe bet he’ll have an important role in the MCU’s future.
Nebula
Nebula is conveniently one of the film’s few survivors. Nebula killed Thanos in the comics. Nothing more needs to be said.
Hawkeye
The Russo brothers claim they are playing ‘the long game’ with Hawkeye and his role in the Avengers. Hawkeye fans will probably want some payoff in Avengers 4 considering his non-existent role in this film - oh wait, Hawkeye fans don’t exist.
In all seriousness, Hawkeye will likely be a major part of the struggling remnants of the Avengers who partake in the journey of stopping Thanos in the next film.
The Soul Stone
Now we get to the things I suspect the average moviegoer or even MCU fan might not have picked up on in the film. One of the things the Russo brothers skilfully ignored was what the Soul Stone was actually capable of doing. We get a snapshot after Thanos clicks his fingers of him with young Gamora, who talks to him and asks him whether the Gauntlet was worth it. I can only speculate, but together with the hints that the Soul Stone is the most powerful and dangerous Infinity Stone, my guess as to what it does is allows its user to communicate with the dead, Ressurection Stone style. I’m still iffy on this one, but I’m sure it will be a heavy theme of Avengers 4. It could even allow the resurrection of the dead(?). This theory would justify the entire situation on Volomir (Volmir? Vomolir?), with the sacrifice of one enabling the ability to communicate with all the dead. black canary costumes
“There Was No Other Way”
This is my big theory. Dr Strange stated there was only one way to stop Thanos after viewing the future on Titan…. cut to a different scene. Did Dr Strange tell the team the method of stopping Thanos, and that was how they got him down on Titan (until Quill went beserk)? It initially appears that way… until Quill boasts about how their method of taking down Thanos was his plan. So what did Dr Strange even contribute to the battle plan? More importantly, did he use his strategy at all? Then Thanos gets Iron Man down and Dr Strange offers him the Time Stone for Stark’s life. Really? This contradicts what Strange explicitly stated earlier in the movie - that he would sacrifice any of their lives for the Stone. You could argue that’s character development. I argue it’s a hint that Dr Strange knows more than he lets on. Finally, as he dissipates, he justifies trading Stark for the Time Stone by cryptically stating, ‘There was no other way’.  injustice 2 joker costumes
Dr Strange must have seen that the only future where the Avengers triumphed over Thanos was one where Thanos beat them. He must have ensured that Thanos triumphed in exactly the way he had to. And he knew that when the time came in Avengers 4, the Avengers would resist Thanos and reverse his mass murders. The team on Titan succeeded in their goal, and because of their actions Thanos can be stopped.
